How to Set up WordPress on Vultr

WordPress is an open source content management system (CMS) that’s been around for more than a decade. It’s simple to use and easy to customize, making it the perfect choice for websites of all types. If you want to install WordPress on your Vultr server but don’t know where to start or what steps you need to take, this guide will walk you through everything from installing LAMP stack and PHPMyAdmin right up until uploading your site via SFTP client (FileZilla).

To configure phpMyAdmin to work with your database, run the following commands:

After that, you’re ready to go!

Now that you have your Vultr account set up and have downloaded WordPress, it’s time to configure Apache and the firewall.

Once you have a Vultr account, you can set up the database and user in phpMyAdmin.

Note: To access your Vultr WordPress installation from outside of their platform, use a different URL than what’s listed here. For example:

To create a new database for this install: In phpMyAdmin, click on Databases > Create Database… Enter your username (this will be used later) as “root” and press OK; then click Next at the welcome screen; give it a name like “Vultr Web Hosting Demo Site;” check all options except Create New Table (you don’t want that); click Next again until you get to step 6 where everything appears correctly configured; create one user called vulkit with permission level Superuser (or whatever else suits your needs). Make sure that there are no permissions set for other users or groups besides yourself! Finally click Save changes before exiting back out into our default dashboard area where we’ll now see something similar to below:

You can use SFTP to upload the unpacked WordPress files to your server. To do this, you’ll need to install FileZilla on your computer and connect to the server using its IP address and port number.

Once connected, go ahead and use SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) in order to transfer your unpacked WordPress files from your computer into their respective folders on Vultr’s servers.

Now that you have set up your WordPress installation, it’s time to access it in a browser.

To complete the setup of WordPress, you will need to login to your vultr account and click on the server that you created. Next, click on “add application” under the Lightspeed column in your server list.

You’ll then be presented with a variety of options for choosing applications that can run on this server. Choose WordPress from this list and enter your database information when prompted (see below). After entering all necessary information, click “install.”

Congratulations! You now have a working WordPress site.

You can now access your site in a browser and configure it further if you like.

If you’ve been in this industry for a while, you know that things can change quickly. We hope these tips will help you get started with your exciting new WordPress site on Vultr!
