In September 2020, NJ narrated how he and his photographer Marty Glembotzky escaped the Twin Towers collapse. The two rushed down to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The first tower began to collapse while shooting a standup right below the burning towers. The two returned to the same scene for the first time ever in September 2020. NJ and Marty narrated their powerful story of survival on the horrible day they visited the scene where they ran for their lives.

On March 11, 2018, NJ posted on Facebook saying that he was at home taking some time off to recover from elective surgery. He added ” I’ll be out for a little while longer until the pain subsides and I get my strength back. No tennis or running for about a month, which may be the toughest part of the recovery. So I’ll be reading and watching the news, bingeing on movies, and catching up on some long-neglected fiction”
