Connie Chiume (born June 05, 1952) is a 71-year-old South African actress and filmmaker famed for featuring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Black Panther and other blockbuster film and TV projects.

The veteran actress is a divorcee and a mother of four grown-up children. She got married to a South African man in the year 1985 and divorced in 2004. Recently, the actress sat down with MacG on Podcast and Chill, where she revealed that her husband maltreated her during their marriage. Here’s more about her.

Connie, whose full name is Connie Temweka Gabisile Chiume, is currently 71 years old. She was born in Welkom, South Africa, on the 5th of June 1952.

Chiume is the daughter of Wright Tadeyo Chiume and MaNdlovu. Her father, who died in 1983, originally hails from Usisya, Nkhata Bay, in Malawi, while her mother, MaNdlovu, was born in KwaZulu-Natal. She passed away in the month of March 2020 following complications of lung cancer.

Chuime has a cousin called Ephraim Mganda Chiume, who was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in the cabinet of Malawi in April 2012 (until 2014). He also served as the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Energy, and Environment and Justice Minister (2011-2012).

Connie Chiume was raised in Welkom. She received her elementary and high school studies in the region. Following her matriculation from an Eastern Cape-based school, she went on to register for further studies at a higher institution. She graduated in the year 1976 with a degree in teaching.

The names of the institutions the actress attended are not open to public scrutiny. She began her journey to greatness as a teacher. She, however, resigned from her teaching job after a few years to travel to Greece.

However, even after their divorce, the actress and her ex-husband kept in touch because of their child. She mentioned losing her child during the divorce and almost went into depression as a result.

MamConnie’s ex-husband was a sound engineer who was also active in the church. The name of the actress’ child with her ex-husband, his occupation, and current whereabouts are not public knowledge.

Besides the child he had with her ex-husband, Chiume has three other kids. She has a total of four children – two boys and two girls.

Nothando Mabuza is the actress’ recognized child. She is a talented singer and actress. She appeared on the TV series The Queen in late 2020, wherein she played Tumelo, a rape victim who triggered Vuyiswa when she was going through her sexual assault storyline.

Mabuza admitted that she had been finding it difficult to break into the industry due to the fact that she is Connie Chiume’s daughter.

Mabuza mentioned that producers tend to overcharge her because of where she comes from and that she really wants to create her own success without using her mom’s name to get by.
